The Phantom Menace 3D gets a date
A 3-D release of George Lucas’ Star Wars Saga was inevitable. A conversion has been rumored for years, and it was made official the other day. Now, fans can experience the films in 3-D beginning in early 2012.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lucas is looking to re-release Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace in February 2012. Twentieth Century Fox hasn’t announced an official date, but is looking for a date around Valentine’s Day. Lucas wants to release The Phantom Menace early in the year as to avoid the summer movie season. This will allow the films to make more at the box-office, and not get overshadowed by Nolan’s Batman 3 or Whedon’s The Avengers. However, the film will have to compete with Sony’s Ghost Rider 2, which is slated for a release on February 17, 2012.
If this re-release is a success, then the rest of films will follow a year apart around the same date. The dates for the other films could change depending on how The Phantom Menace performs.
