The latest on the Spider-Man remake
MTV got to pin down Spider-Man remake director Marc Webb about the latest on the web slinger’s revamped adventure this past weekend. The internet has been going crazy with rumors of who could end up being the next Peter Parker, and a lot of us were under the impression for quite awhile that Logan Lerman was going to take on the role, but that was quickly debunked by Webb.
Enough talk, here’s some more of what they were able to dish out from him.:
“We’re casting a wide net. That’s really all i can say at this point,” he said, reiterating that statement when asked if an actor like rumored contender Joseph Gordon-Levitt is too old for the part, or if the studio is looking for an unknown. “We’re casting a wide net.”
“[Sam Raimi] did something fantastic, but I do think the mythology of Spider-Man is wide and vast, and there’s more opportunity to explore that cinematically,” he said of working in the shadow of Raimi’s three-film blockbuster franchise. “Sam is not only a great guy but a fantastic director and it’s a humbling prospect, but I’m looking forward to it.”
“I talked to James (Cameron) and Jon (Landau) a little bit,” he confirmed. “It’s such an enormous undertaking. I’d like to talk to those guys more. They’re fantastic representatives for 3-D and we’ll be talking more about that.”
Remaking spider man without tobey maguire is like trying to remake pirates of the carribean without jhonny depp. its just not right. without tobey you can expect a theatre to be half empty. i really doubt that people would want to see this movie , but then again it’s just my opinion. i would like to try to get you guys to let tobey maguire stay as the character ” spider man.”

I would agree that Maguire was great, but he’s too old for the part now. Sony wants Parker to go back to High School, and Maguire is way too old for that. Actors are replaced all the time, so it can work. I just hope whoever they will be good in the role. Logan Lerman was my choice, but Sony has already dismissed any involvement with him.

Dude, Tobey Macguire sucks. He has no emotion and he does not fit with the actor for Mary Jane. Honestly I think the new series is gonna be twice as good.

i agree with dingas. i hated toby maguire’s performances in all three spiderman movies, he just didnt seem to fit the part like josh hutcherson.

Toby was the worst thing to happen to spiderman, he was a lame boring loser. Spiderman, if you have ever read a comic, you would know is a sarcastic smart ass and very witty, I think Topher Grace would have been beter cast as spiderman but they ruined that. All the spiderman movies sucked, they need a revamp.

i personally thought toby mac did for spider-man what ben afleck did for pearl harbor, and for those that think i’m making a compliment i’m not, ben afleck is a pitiful actor… that’s just my opinion though

if its a remake, tobey maquire shouldn’t be in it. Why is there being a remake anyways? The first isn’t all that old. We need NEW movies. Ones with new plots and villains.
I liked all three Spider-man movies. But they’re doing a remake. C’mon, where has the world gone to these days. They should’ve continued the Spider-man series with Tobey Maguire. He made a great role for that character. Well they should’ve gotten somebody prettier for Mary-Jane Watson. I mean kirsten Dunst isn’t that hot.
They’ve should’ve made two more Spider-man movies with the same guy and get different villians. The guy who played Mr. Jamison was great
and so was everyone else. What I’m trying to say is that the remake is gonna reek.
I hope not. Good casting and interesting young director could spark up the franchise again after a stale SM3, IMO.

adaptation of a comic book idea from 50 years ago.
They DID Spiderman. People loved it. They’re done. Move on. Make something else. Hollywood as truly hit rock-bottom in Remake Hell. No wonder I never go to the movies anymore.

ok on all 3 spider mans he harley used his spider sense only a moron would think thats spider man . his spider sense didnt go off when doc ock robbed the bank and threw that door then when his machine messed up in the beginning . then at the end when he rescued mj when he got hit by doc ock twice. then when new goblin pick him up and fought with him then when sandman came his spider sense never went off thats spider mans main power spider sense thats like makeing wolvrine with out his healing powers thats why the movies are being remade only dumbasses would watch sam ramis spider man movies
You know, I was actually looking forward for a Spider-Man 4, with Carnage, but it’ll be interesting to see a remake though. But I heard about a Venom movie in 2011 or 12.
What would it be like if they made a what-if movie [like those Marvel what-ifs stories] Spider-Man and Final Destination! The story would be like having who would be next, and Spidey probably teaming up with FF4, Hulk, Iron Man, and poss. DareDevil to save all their loved ones. That would be interesting. But who would be a good villain to make all these deaths? Venom. Carnage. Green Goblin. It would be cool!
the past spiderman trilogy’s character selection sucked. the spiderman character by tobey was boring.. spiderman’s supposedly is fun..

I think the entire issue is stupid. They have already done new spiderman movies. To go back once again and rehash the same thing this soon is nuts. No matter who does him. And to go and put him back in High School is even worse. People have been waiting for some of the other bad guys. This is just stupid to put all the money in another throwback film.
Spider-man 1/2 & 3 are AMAZING!! ive got all 3 of them on DVD, i hope they wont be forgotten. HATE THE REBOOT IDEA!
