The Hobbit could begin its journey in Britain

It’s another chapter in the battle of where The Hobbit will be filmed. While the film has been green-lit, there’s still the decision of moving The Hobbit out of New Zealand where sets are already constructed. The boycott that has been causing all the recent trouble has been lifted, but the damage may have already been done, and Peter Jackson and wife/c0-producer are looking into different locations.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Fran Walsh reveals they sent photographer to the United Kingdom, and is the ideal place to film. “They’ve got a huge studio there that Harry Potter has vacated, the ex-Rolls Royce factory, that they say would be perfect for us“, she said. The site has been used in several big Hollywood films, such as The Star Wars prequels and the Harry Potter series. The studio executives will be arriving on Monday to make arrangements to move the sets to the location.

This comes just after the Screen Actors Guild ended their boycott, but it seems Jackson and the studio has lost confidence in New Zealand as a filming location (here). Capturing the same scenery seen throughout Jackson’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy will be difficult in a different location, but perhaps moving production is for the best. The dispute between the studio and President of the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions, Hellen Kelly, has been getting uglier and uglier, and cost nearly 2,000 workers their jobs. Prime Minister of New Zealand, John Key, is hoping to meet with the executives from WB when they arrive Monday, and hopes they reconsider their decision.
