The Fight over Avatar 3D Blu-ray

Blu-ray.com is reporting that Samsung and Panasonic maybe be fighting over the rights to release a bundle of their new 3D TV’s with Fox’s Avatar 3D Blu-ray. 3D TVs are on the verge of being released into the market place, especially in the fourth quarter of 2010. With rumors of Samsung throwing “serious money” for this exclusive, Panasonic also helped in the production of the James Cameron mega-hit.

What gets tricky is that at the Samsung 3D launch event held recently in New York, James Cameron was there in attendance and spoke after the group the Black Eye Peas filmed their concert using 3D cameras for a 3D Blu-ray exclusively made for Samsung. But the producer of Avatar Jon Landau spoke at a Panasonic convention showing off clips of the film.

What does this mean for customers? Not much. 3D TVs will be released and then like all technology, the mainstream has to adopt them in order for their existence to be assured. Remember, Fox still hasn’t released an official announcement about a possible 3D Blu-ray for the film, saying that “3D is in the conceptual stage and Avatar will not be out on 3D Blu-ray in November.” Avatar‘s DVD and first (of what will be many Blu-ray releases) will street on Earth Day this coming April.

  1. Meh, I saw it twice in 2-D and it was still amazing. I just hope when it comes to Blu-Ray in April that it has the added scenes Cameron spoke of.
