The Church against New Moon

Submitted by Jon Peters on November 22, 2009 – 7:14 pm4 Comments

the-vatican-counselOkay, with all of the money Twilight Saga: New Moon made this opening weekend, haters can still spit venom, but it matters not: the Twi-Hards have spoken with dollars, and that’s the bottom line in Hollywood.

With all of the hype and hate, negative reviews and big bucks made, for some reason The Vatican has stepped in and offered up what the Church feels about this phenomenon of a franchise:

This theme of vampires in Twilight combines a mixture of excesses that, as ever is aimed at young people and gives a heavy esoteric element…This film is nothing more than a moral vacuum with a deviant message and as such should be of concern.”

The Vatican has always stepped in and offered thoughts on various films from time to time, usually to condemn something, much like now. We can look at it two ways: One, the Vatican is stepping on Mormons toes here, since the film made serious Passion of the Christ numbers, because it is well-known that the book’s author and a fellow Mormon, Stephanie Meyers used these books to preach the themes of pro-abstinence. Two, religion is a business, and piggy-backing on a popular cultural phenom like Twilight is easy marketing.

    Jon Reply:

I understand why they do things like this. People look at the Church for moral guidance, but yes, Matt, they should.

The were angry at early Harry Potter films and Da Vinci Code, but said their sequels were harmless entertainment. Okay, why the change? So when Eclipse comes out, it’s a-okay?

I wish they would spend more time getting rid of all the perv Priests who molest young children then all of this gripping about New Moon, Da Vanci Code, etc.

Jason beat me to it, They are ok with pardoning pervie priests, but heaven forbid (no pun intended) there are movies that get people talking about religion.
