Tatum will star in Ion
James Cameron’s Avatar, was a huge money maker for Twentieth Century Fox. The sequel is currently planned, but with no word on when the film will be shooting or released. The studio is waiting as they have picked up another sci-fi epic that is being labeled as “the next Avatar” titled Ion.
According to Heat Vision Blog, Channing Tatum will star in the new romantic sci-fi epic, with Ridley and Tony Scott producing. The script, which is being written by Will Dunn, is already gained interest from several studios. The script has been since last year, and with the epic success of Avatar, studios have shown more interest in sci-fi. The plot revolves around a man jumping between two Earths and other dimensions to search for his reincarnated lover.
The story attracted the Scott Brothers, and further developed the script. Tatum was then brought in as the film’s lead. The executives use the word “Avatar” loosely “to describe the scope and otherworldly elements of the script.” This is just one of several sci-fi projects in the works after the success of last year’s Avatar, Star Trek, and District 9.
