Sylvester McCoy in talks for The Hobbit
It wasn’t too long ago that fans were worried that The Hobbit would never see the light of day. While no official announcement has been made on the films yet, Jackson has still going ahead with casting for the film. Now, it looks like former Doctor Who star may in fact be cast in the film.
Sylvester McCoy told the Dunoon-Observer that he’s currently in talks to join The Hobbit. “I am being cast in The Hobbit,” McCoy said. However, he does deny rumors that he’s vying for the role of Bilbo Baggins. “We’re currently in negotiations – there are two of us under consideration. It’s not the Bilbo role, but could be bigger,” he said. He’ll reportedly going to be cast as one of the wizards in the film.
The Hobbit has yet to be green-lit, but Jackson is hopeful an announcement will come “sometime soon.” McCoy was the second choice to portray Bilbo Baggins in Jackson’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy, but ended up going to Ian Holm instead. However, these films will be showing a much younger version of the character, and would be impossible for McCoy who’s almost as old as Holm. Production is apparently still scheduled to begin in January.
