Studio Ghibli Announces Next Projects
Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata recently announced he will be directing his first movie in ten years. The movie is titled Taketori Monogatari, or The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter in English, which is an adaptation of the classic 10th century folktale The Tale of Princess Kaguya. the folk tale is about a mysterious girl, Kaguya-hime, who was discovered as a baby inside the stalk of a glowing bamboo plant. She is said to be from Tsuki-no-Miyako (“The Capital of the Moon”) and has unusual hair that “shines like gold.”
Also mentioned was the work of legend Hayao Miyazaki. He’s busy “in discussions with studio staff to make two more feature-length films in the next 3 years.”
I’m a huge fan of Studio Ghibli’s stuff. It’s been the only real foreign anime I can really get into, with a few exceptions. But with Ponyo just being released a few months ago and that being just as good as the other films the studio’s put out, one can only wait with baited breath for the next adventure Studio Ghibli will take audiences on.
