Stewie gets ‘outed’

Whether an animated character can come out of the closet is still up in the air,  recently Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane told the folks over at Playboy, that famed sociopath Stewie Griffin is in fact gay.  Apparently, there have been episodes sketched out that reveal the child’s inner secrets as MacFarlane states:

“We had an episode that went all the way to the script phase, in which, Stewie does come out. It had to do with the harassment he took from other kids at school. He ends up going back in time to prevent a passage in Leviticus from being written: ‘Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind. It is an abomination.’ But we decided it’s better to keep it vague, which makes more sense, because he’s a 1-year-old.  Ultimately, Stewie will be gay, or a very unhappy repressed heterosexual. It also explains why he’s so hellbent on killing [his mother, Lois] and taking over the world: He has a lot of aggression, which comes from confusion and uncertainty about his orientation.”

Family Guy is currently making the awards rounds, explaining why they deserve the best comedy Emmy over such favs as 30 Rock and How I Met Your Mother, to become the first animated series to win Television’s highest award, as it is currently the second animated series to be nominated since The Flintstones.  Whether a homosexual Stewie or a lost abortion episode can do it, is still up in the air.
