Stephen Fry joins Sherlock Holmes 2
The casting for Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes 2 is coming together. Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law will be reprising their roles as Sherlock Holmes and Watson, with Noomi Rapace (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) recently brought on board. Now, Stephen Fry has been revealed to join the film.
Fry told BBC’s 5 Live (via Bleeding Cool) that he will be playing the role of Sherlock Holmes’ brother, Mycroft. “I’m playing Mycroft in the sequel to the Sherlock Holmes film Guy Ritchie directed with Robert Downey Jr., and that sort of part is fun, but just once in a while to play a genuine all round sort of lead figure with complexity and tragedy and wit and all the sort of things that Oscar [Wilde] had was a once in a lifeftime thrill,” he said. The role of the sequel’s villain, Moriarty, but Daniel Day Lewis is rumored for the role.
Production is scheduled to begin later this year.
