Spierig Brothers take on a 3D Power of the Dark Crystal

Daybreakers directors Michael and Peter Spierig are one of the biggest pieces to the puzzle, bringing the Dark Crystal sequel back to life. The Jim Henson Company are teaming up with Omnilab Media and Ambience Entertainment in order to quickly start getting this production underway. Not only is this picture hopping onto the fast track, but it is following the same trend like so many other films in production right now with the inevitable announcement that it will be in 3-D.

Craig Pearce is writing the script, his previous credits include Strictly Ballroom, Moulin Rouge! and the upcoming picture Charlie St. Cloud. Continue reading on down below to get Michael Spierig’s two cents on this announcement and a description of what the story will be (via Coming Soon).:

Michael Spierig said, “We feel a tremendous amount of responsibility in telling this story with the same meticulous care that Jim Henson and Frank Oz gave the 1982 original.” Added Peter Spierig, “This is a chance to take the world of puppetry into the modern age by using modern techniques (like motion capture CGI) and the tried and true methods (like puppetry and animatronics) to create a one hundred percent real world that is unique to ‘The Dark Crystal.’”

Set hundreds of years after the events of the first movie when the world has once again fallen into darkness, Power of the Dark Crystal follows the adventures of a mysterious girl made of fire who, together with a Gelfling outcast, steals a shard of the legendary Crystal in an attempt to reignite the dying sun that exists at the center of the planet.

I've been in love with film ever since I was a kid. The time, effort and passion that runs through a majority most film is something that's always attracted me to this field. What ended up happening with my big appetite for all things going on in the industry turned from random blurbs on Facebook to an unexpected but fun job. College student by day, movie news writer by early morning...or any time in the day and night when more news arrives. Working towards my bachelor's degree in film, what a surprise. I do other things too, like draw, write stories, maintain a social life and feed my pet dragon Lockheed. If you want to know more about me, hunt me down and just ask.
