Spielberg jumps ship on Harvey

Submitted by Melissa Molina on December 4, 2009 – 10:34 amNo Comment

steven-spielberg-1Steven Spielberg is taking the high road as he opts out of being attached to direct the remake of Harvey. A couple of factors played out int0 this ultimate decision by the famous director, and one of those was the overall approach the film was going to take story wise. With apparent constant clashing between Spielberg and Twentieth Century Fox over the ‘vision’ of sorts with the film, that on top of casting the male lead were a bit too much for the veteran director.

Spielberg’s first choice was Tom Hanks, but the actor who is often regarded as a modern day Stewart wanted no part of taking over a role played by the iconic star (Variety). Now while this report does not agree with all of the casting choices Hanks has made during recent years, I feel in a sense he made a wise decision. Even though Hanks was looked at first did not stop Spielberg as he continued to eyeball Iron Man 2 star Robert Downey Jr. for a few months with obviously no success. No word what so ever on who will end up taking over the director’s chair in this remake as well as who could star in it.
