Spider-Man franchise gets the Reboot, no Spidey 4

Submitted by Melissa Molina on January 11, 2010 – 4:43 pm3 Comments

In what happens to be the strangest turn of events in the start of 2010 for comic book adaptations is the sudden collapse of the Spider-Man franchise. That’s right folks, Sony Pictures is completely rebooting the franchise with a possible new film for this coming out in 2012. You might be asking, why is that? Well Sam Raimi finally walked away from the hit Marvel Studios series that helped sculpt nearly a decade’s worth of comic book adaptations, creating a new sub genre in Hollywood entirely.

After the recent postponement of Spider-Man 4, despite the constant casting news that has been spewing about, Sam Raimi ultimately decided to take the high road rather than try to go and make another feature that has already been suffering from constant creative differences script-wise.

Mike Fleming gave the announcement today on Deadline saying that Sony Pictures is out-of-the-blue rebooting the most lucrative comic book franchise known to date because of the pure fact that they cannot see themselves making Spider-Man 4 without the watchful eye of Sam Raimi.

With this being said, that means all of the casting and everything that we have reported to you about Spider-Man 4, yes I am even talking about yesterday’s news on John Malkovich becoming The Vulture, is scrapped.

So now that the Spider-Man 4 movie is completely dead and there’s a reboot on the horizon, what do you think of all of this? Was Raimi right to jump ship because of time constrictions? What was really going on behind the scenes with the script that forced him to walk? Surely we’ll find out very soon but for now we all can just sit here and think what the hell is going on.
