Sony tries to Dream of Jeannie once more

The studio tries to get the I Dream of Jeannie production out of the development bottle as they tap onto scribe Sheila Callaghan to go and conjure up another draft of the story, says the LA Times. The sitcom series, created in 1965, was created by Sidney Sheldon has been getting several false starts in the realms of development for years. One of the drafts that was created for the feature film version was penned by scribes Marianne and Cormac Wibberley along with another take by Rita Hsiao.

Callaghan’s credits include putting together the script for a couple of episodes on the Showtime series United States of Tara. This could be the winning script to finally get put into production, sending this project full force onto the fast track. None of us will know until it’s all completed, whenever that may be.

The story of the genie who saves astronaut Captain Tony Nelson, only to fall in love with him and follow him back home despite her newfound freedom will be interesting to see on screen if it finally does make the hurdle past development with Callaghan’s version. Sony Pictures is also in the middle of rebooting the Spider-Man series along with putting together a third Men in Black movie.
