Shutter Island conquers again
For the second weekend in a row, Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island dominates the competition with $22.2 Million under it’s belt. The crime drama thriller has not been out for too long, so a lot of steam and mainly positive reviews are helping keep this Leonardo DiCaprio starring film afloat. The other two new releases managed to hang on pretty well in themselves, especially when it comes to the Kevin Smith directed Cop Out, managing to take in $18.6 Million on it’s first weekend.
The surprising box office pull for the weekend has to go to the Breck Eisner directed remake of The Crazies which made $16.5 Million that could in a large part be contributed to the positive word of mouth. Other films that are holding up fine throughout this past weekend include the obvious incoming flow of money that’s going into Avatar. Here’s the rest of the totals below from Box Office Mojo.:

March is already starting up this week, and what better way to introduce it properly than with a new batch of films. On the slate for this coming friday is the much anticipated Tim Burton and Walt Disney Pictures feature Alice in Wonderland along with the wide release of Brooklyn’s Finest.
