SDCC ’10: Predators sequel confirmed

For many, Nimrod Antal’s Predators was the sequel that fans have been waiting for, and relief after the lackluster Alien vs. Predator films. With the film a box-office success, Robert Rodriguez reveals at Comic-con (via IGN Movies) that a sequel is likely to happen.

“[The studio] said, ‘Let’s do some other ones. What other story ideas do you have?’”, Rodriguez said. Twentieth Century Fox wanted to Predators to be “scaled-down” , and “test out the market with this one.” Some of the ideas were with-held just in case the film warranted a sequel. They also wanted to see what the audience wanted, and then go bigger with the sequel. “That kind of sets up a new storyline, new location and world, and then you can really go crazy from there.”

Rodriguez does have an idea for the next film. He wants to hire different writers to come up with different versions of his take, and choose the best draft. Rodriguez served as producer on Predators, but when asked if he would direct the sequel he said,  “I think I have too many people wanting me to do Sin City 2 first!” Nimrod Antal may  be occupied with his dream project, Paraffin, to return as director.
