SDCC ’10: Ant-Man NOT in The Avengers
Nathan Fillion has been rumored to star as Ant-Man in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers for several months now. Whedon attended a secret meeting with Edgar Wright, who’s attached to direct an Ant-Man solo film, that only added more speculation. However, after the events at Whedon’s panel in Ballroom 20, Marvel decided to step in and make it official.
A Marvel executive announced (via Super Hero Hype) that “Nathan Fillion is Ant-Man,” but then added, “unfortunately Ant-Man isn’t really in the movie.” Reports that Fillion had been cast came in after Whedon announced he wanted Fillion to be the pint-sized hero. This announcement cause confusion amongst the audience as Whedon was just joking.
Whedon has been known to put actors he’s worked with before into his projects. The last news we heard on the script was that it was still being outlined. Although, it would seem likely that Ant-Man would show up in the film. He is after all, one of the original member of the Avengers. Maybe this is just a misinformation campaign by the studio and wanted to reveal the news tomorrow night.
The Avengers is scheduled to open on May 4, 2012.
