Saw VIII is a possibility (Updated)

The Saw franchise holds the record for the most successful horror series, with six films released. The latest entry, Saw 3D has been reported to end the long-running franchise. However, the writers may just have an idea for another film.

According to Pop Wrap, actress Betsy Russell reveals the series may continue with another entry. “Before we thought it was ending [with 'Saw 7'], the writers came up with an unbelievable idea [for 'Saw 8'],” she said. Russell didn’t want to give any details as it could ruin the twist for Saw 3-D, but tells us that “it’s an amazing story that I would love to see.”

She did say that if fans go to see the film on its release, then Saw 8 wouldn’t be too far off.  “We want to end near the top, with our integrity in tact and not letting the characters die a slow death, so to speak. But I believe in my heart that someday, somehow, ['Saw 8'] will happen,” Russell stated. It should come to no surprise that another film would be in the works. As long as a film makes enough money at the box-office, then a sequel is likely to happen. However, this is one franchise that many are wanting to die off (Editor: But not me!).

Update: Bloody-Disgusting was contacted by co-writer  Patrick Melton stating,  ”to clarify, Betsy has the story half correct.  ”At one point, we had an idea for two more movies. But after VI opened, we decided to combine everything into one last film, which is SAW 3D. This one is the last shebang!“.

Saw 3D will open on October 29, 2010.
