Sarah Polley as Queen of Sweden

Sarah Polley (Dawn of the Dead, Road to Avonlea) is set to play the Queen of Sweden in Finnish director Mika Kaurismaki‘s historical drama Queen Kristina.

Canadian screenwriter Michel Marc Bouchard will write the script for the film, which will be based on the 17th century Swedish queen who gained the throne at six years of age and became an eccentric political and military leader who eventually gave up her throne to pursue artistic and scientific interests.

The film will shoot in Canada and Sweden in early 2011.
