Russell Crowe to be The Equalizer

It’s not easy being Russell Crowe right now, mainly because of the box office bomb that he starred in which is known to us all as Robin Hood. But when it comes to the industry, despite the setbacks you still move forward, and that’s exactly what the Australian actor is doing. He’s taking on the lead role in the feature film version of The Equalizer, an action television series created in 1985 which centered on private detective called Robert McCall and his adventures to solve people’s crimes, says The LA Times (via Cinema Blend).

This adds onto the ever-growing trend of grabbing eighties television shows/films, spinning them around and making some fast cash in the form of said new feature. Already attached to produce the feature is Alex Siskin, Mace Neufeld and the production company Escape Artists. The hunt is still on for a writer and director on this film.

Crowe will appear once more this year on the big screen in the Paul Haggis film The Next Three Days. The upcoming thriller, centered on a married couple who’s life is turned upside down when the wife is accused of murder, comes out in theaters on November 19th.

  1. THE EQUALIZER was and is one of my all-time favorite tc shows. I was excited for the movie, but with the casting of Crowe, I am no longer looking forward to it. He’s horribly miscast. He’s too young to play the character. I’m afraid this will end up like Crowe’s last foray into a film based on a TV show, MIAMI VICE. No thanks. At least they waited until after Edward Woodward was dead, so he can roll over in his grave.

My mistake, mixed up Crowe with Colin Ferrell. Point still stands, I think it’s a ad casting.
