Rumor: Natalie Portman wanted for Lois Lane
Development on WB/DC Entertainment’s Superman reboot is moving forward. Producers Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas have been meeting with several directors to helm the film, including Black Swan’s Darren Aronofsky. Now, it looks like Nolan is also looking into casting.
A source revealed to Moviehole that Natalie Portman has been suggested to star as Superman/Clark Kent’s love interest Lois Lane. While the director has a big role in saying who’s cast in the film, but happen only if Aronofsky comes on board. Portman has been getting much praise for her role in Aronofsky’s Black Swan, and she could be bringing that to the much anticipated Superman reboot. However, apparently talks about Aronofsky directing hasn’t “progressed beyond the suggestion of having [Natalie Portman] be Lois,” the source claimed.
Portman was apparently WB’s original choice for Lane in Brian Singer’s Superman Returns, which ultimately went to Kate Bosworth. Many felt that Bosworth didn’t capture the essence of Lois Lane from the comics, and was a big miscasting for the film. If Portman did accept the role, then it could possibly conflict with another film from WB, Gravity. However, this is all a rumor right now, so take it with a grain of salt.
The Man of Steel is scheduled to open in December of 2012.
