Rumor: Could Killer Croc be Batman 3 villain?
Let’s face it, the biggest question everyone wants to know about Batman 3 is, who will be Batman’s next villain? Almost every villain fans could think of has been rumored and/or speculated to appear in the film. From Johnny Depp as The Riddler to Phillip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.
But it was revealed recently that production would be shifting from Chicago to New Orleans (here), and it was all assumed that was because the tax cuts Louisiana provides. But could that actually be a hint at the film’s villain? That’s the folks over at /Film seem to think so. Even Mark Millar recently tweeted (here) that he knew what villain(s) would appear in the film, and may have hinted at this idea. “Oh, wait. Con gossip: I know who the villain(s) are in Batman 3 and the big scene outside Gotham sounds awesome,” he said.
Millar does mention the story taking Batman away from Gotham, which was briefly done in The Dark Knight. Now, you may be thinking that Killer Croc wouldn’t fit in Nolan’s universe, but the character has appear in Batman: Gotham Knight, which supposedly ties into Nolan’s films. That version of Killer Croc “was an infant born with the disfiguring skin disorder epidermolytic hyperkeratosis and that his mother abandoned him in the sewers of Gotham City” (via Wikipedia). The character may not be well known to the general audience, the character recently played a big role in Batman: Arkham Asylum, and would be fresh in the public minds. However, this only a rumor, and we should hear something official from Nolan by the end of the year or early next year.
Batman 3 will open in July of 2012.
