Ruffalo to “actually” play the Hulk

The Hulk has been brought to life in different ways through the years. In the 1980 television show, Lou Ferrigno portrayed the character using make-up, and CG was used for the previous two films. For The Avengers, the green monster will be brought to life using motion-capture.

Ruffalo told Vulture that “they’re going to do the Avatar stop-action, stop-motion capture. So I’ll actually play the Hulk. That’ll be fun.” While Ferrigno played to character in a tv series, Ruffalo will be the first to actually play the character on film. Somthing that he’s excited about. “I’m really excited. No one’s ever played the Hulk exactly, they’ve always done CGI,” Ruffalo said.

He also seemingly confirms earlier reports (here) that The Avengers will be assembling in 3-D. “I hope I don’t bulge in anyone’s face, that’s all I have to say,” he said. Ruffalo came on board after Edward Norton and Marvel Studios had a disagreement, which lead to his casting at Comic-con this year. Production is scheduled to begin next February.

The Avengers will open on May 6, 2012.
