Routh to screen-test for Superman, but no Jon Nolan?

Superman Returns may not have been what fans were hoping for, but if there’s one thing that many agree it, then it’s Brandon Routh’s performance as Superman/Clark Kent. Since then, the actor’s contract to reprise the role had expired, but that hasn’t stopped the actor from showing interest in WB/DC Entertainment’s reboot. Fans can rest easy now, because Routh will reportedly be given a shot to return in the role.

According to DCWarnerbros.com, Nolan believes that Routh looks right for the role, and is willing to screen-test the actor. However, Nolan is apparently worried if Routh gets cast in the role, then the general audience will think it’s a sequel to Singer’s Superman Returns. However, the reboot will be offering a new interpretation of the character, and move away from the version seen in Singer’s film.

The site also debunks rumors that Jon Nolan is the front-runner to direct the project. “Jonah was never offered anything, apparently some fans just imagine he may have the talent that his brother has. The WB has not made an official offer to Jonah, he is involved in the script and future treatments to it,” according to the source. While this may or not be good news for those who wanted an experienced director to helm the reboot, but puts David Goyer back as the top contender to get the job. “As of now David Goyer has a better shot of landing this gig. While in discussions he noted mistakes made in other movies he has directed, this apparently is not a strike against him. To his credit, the WB believes the experience is actually a positive aspect of hiring him. They like that he has worked in this genre in quite a few capacities, and trust that his time with Nolan has also been well spent,” the source says. This is only a rumor as of right now, so take it with a grain of salt.

The Man of Steel is scheduled to open Christmas 2012.

  1. As long as they find someone who can embody the charecter I’m all for the reboot, even if the actor is Routh, Welling, or an unknown actor.

I do have to admit though, I enjoyed Routh as Superman and as Clark Kent. I felt his preformance seemed honest and wholesome but I think they need to loosten Clark up a bit and have him show his ability to compete with Lois if need be for a scoop.

Moreover they should consider the idea of having Clark’s glasses be made from the crystalline of the fortress and that these lenses allow Clark to scew peoples minds so they see Clark as a man but by removing the glasses the effect is halted and Clark is seen as Superman.

Having an explaination for the glasses as a sophisticated prop would lend more verisurealitude to the concept of Clark’s disguise as a mild mannered reporter… Just an idea.
