Rourke takes on the War of the Gods

Mickey Rourke is ready to beat down some measly mortals as he signs up to play the villain in the Greek mythological set tale War of the Gods. His character’s name is King Hyperion in the story that follows a young warrior Theseus (Henry Cavill) who leads his men into battle with the immortal Greek gods to defeat evil elder gods of the Titans in order to save mankind. The feature also stars Freida Pinto in the film being directed by Tarsem Singh.

Ryan Kavanaugh from Relativity Media, Gianni Nunnari of Hollywood Gang Productions and Mark Canton of Atmosphere Entertainment are all producing, says Variety. Singh helmed a couple of other films, those being The Cell and The Fall. The feature, penned by Jason Keller, is set to be released under Universal Pictures sometime in 2011. Mickey Rourke can next be seen as Whiplash in the Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures action/adventure film Iron Man 2 on May 7th.
