Rooney Mara is The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

The search for Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo remake was one of the most drawn out casting searches. Up to seven different actresses were competing for the role to co-star with Daniel Craig. Fincher and Sony have finally filled that role.

Deadline Hollywood reports that Rooney Mara (A Nightmare On Elm Street) has been selected to star in Fincher’s remake. The deal Mara has signed onto will include to star in remakes for The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest, the second and third books in Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy. The books all feature the same murder conspiracy started in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Daniel Craig has been cast as Mikael Blomkvist for several Weeks, with Robin Wright in talks for the role of Erika Berger. Stellan Skarsgard is also in talks to star as Martin Vanger. This won’t be the first time Mara has worked with Fincher. She recently starred in The Social Network, which Fincher is directing. Production is scheduled to begin this fall.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo will open on December 21, 2011.
