Rollercoaster Tycoon goes to the big screen

This is the part where we wish that we were kidding but unfortunately we’re not. Sony Pictures Animation today are bringing the popular computer video game Rollercoaster Tycoon to the big screen. The production company scooped up the rights with Harald Zwart attached to possibly direct the feature. With his resume that includes directing Agent Cody Banks and the upcoming remake of The Karate Kid, he’s pretty fit for the job.

The “Tycoon” franchise, created by Chris Sawyer, is a popular series of computer games that simulate a combination of designing roller coasters and amusement park management. Each game challenges players with open-ended amusement park management and development while allowing them to construct and customize their own unique roller coasters (Heat Vision Blog).

Writing the script to this film is Jay Scherick and David Ronn, who’s previous credits include Guess Who, Norbit and I Spy.

  1. Hopefully they stay true to the game and the theme park janitors are there to sweep up soda cans and vomit.
