Rodriguez takes on Fire & Ice

In a recent interview with Ain’t It Cool News, Robert Rodriguez dished out what’s next on his plate post-Machete, and no it’s not Sin City 2. Instead it’s Fire & Ice, based off of the characters created by Frank Frazetta, a 1983 animated feature that got a bad box office rep during the time of it’s initial release. Now that Rodriguez has the rights to go and bring this back to the big screen, you bet the director’s going to pull out all the stops. Here’s an excerpt from the interview below.:

…it’s now a TROUBLEMAKER STUDIOS PICTURE. What’s cool is, unlike past projects that I’d get involved with that would get stalled for various reasons, I control the rights to this one. So it’s actually in my power to set it up and get it made, which wasn’t the case on other projects.

I also have Frazetta reproduction paintings hanging all over my house, I don’t think I’ve gone a day without seeing Frank’s work somewhere in my living space. He’s been so influential to artists and filmmakers, and yet we still haven’t seen a Frazetta world truly come to life in a live action film, so that’s what I’d want to do with the FIRE and ICE project.

The co-directed production of Machete, helmed by Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis, will be slashing it’s way into theaters on September 3rd.
