Rodriguez negotiating to direct Deadpool

It was rumored back in June that Robert Rodriguez was offered to direct Twentieth Century Fox’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine spin-off, Deadpool. Those rumors were confirmed recently at Comic-Con, but the director wasn’t sure if he would be able to take the job with his already busy schedule. However, it seems that Rodriguez may in fact be able to direct the film.

The LA Times reports that Twentieth Century Fox is negotiation with Rodriguez to helm the project. There’s no deal set just yet, and they’re addressing many points. The director is currently about to begin filming on Spy Kids 4 in September, with a few other projects listed. These include the long-awaited Sin City 2, Madman, and possibly a sequel to this year’s Predators.

If the studio can make a contract that would please Rodriguez, then he may very well take the job. The director has said to have praised the script written by Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Rheese and Paul Wernick. Fans have been losing interest in the X-Men franchise recently, and this may be a great way to bring some of them back. However, if a deal is made, then it will come after Spy Kids 4: Armageddon.
