Robocop remake dead?
Â
The financial problems over at MGM has led to the delay of the studio’s upcoming projects like The Hobbit and Bond 23, and among those projects little was talked about on Darren Aronofsky’s Robocop remake. However, plans on that film have reportedly been abandoned all together, too.
Moviehole got a chance to speak with a friend from MGM at Comic-Con about the situation over at the studio. It was then revealed that Robocop is now “gone. Kaput. Canceled. It was one of the first casualties.” Aronofsky “has lost interest anyway, I believe. Think we’re all just going to have to be happy with the three RoboCop movies that are out there”. This wasn’t the first time the film has been rumored to be dead. The film was put on hold back in January, due to Aronofsky refusing to shoot the film in 3-D, but this time it looks to be real.
This isn’t too surprising as the studio can’t afford to finance anything right now, but could it be the beginning of something? Bond 23 was also rumored to be canceled, but that was quickly dismissed. However, with MGM’s problems getting worse and worse, we could very well see more projects canceled if the studio can’t find a way to fix their problems. There have been options for the studio to sell the rights to The Hobbit or James Bond to earn finance. Spyglass, Lionsgate, or Summit Entertainment have shown interest in buying out the studio.
