Restrepo goes to National Geographic

This year’s Sundance Film Festival Documentary Grand Jury Prize Restrepo is finally making it’s way out of that circuit and into the hands of National Geographic. The company National Geographic Films, made a purchase in which the feature will be marching it’s way into theaters on July 2nd. The feature is directed by Tim Hetherington and Sebastian Junger under Outpost Films and Passion Pictures.

Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington’s year dug in with the Second Platoon in one of Afghanistan’s most strategically crucial valleys reveals extraordinary insight into the surreal combination of back breaking labor, deadly firefights, and camaraderie as the soldiers painfully push back the Taliban.

Daniel Battsek, president of National Geographic Films, says more on the acquisition to Variety.:

“This acquisition just continues what National Geographic’s been building as a brand that can be a significant player in independent films,” Battsek told Daily Variety. “It’s gotten a tremendous response from audiences and I think it can be expanded well beyond the normal audience for documentaries.”

I've been in love with film ever since I was a kid. The time, effort and passion that runs through a majority most film is something that's always attracted me to this field. What ended up happening with my big appetite for all things going on in the industry turned from random blurbs on Facebook to an unexpected but fun job. College student by day, movie news writer by early morning...or any time in the day and night when more news arrives. Working towards my bachelor's degree in film, what a surprise. I do other things too, like draw, write stories, maintain a social life and feed my pet dragon Lockheed. If you want to know more about me, hunt me down and just ask.
