Rene Russo is Thor’s Mama

friggarussoThat’s a title that many of us could more than likely have never had imagined to see. SuperHeroHype reports that Rene Russo will be filling up the role of Frigga in the upcoming Kenneth Branagh directed Thor movie. Frigga is an Asgardian who’s the Queen of Asgard, wife to Odin and step mother to Thor along with a foster mother to Loki. That will make for quite the interesting family tree on the big screen with Chris Hemsworth as the mighty Norse god, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Thor’s papa and Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

This makes the cast look absolutely gigantic now if you include the likes of Samuel L. Jackson, Jaimie Alexander, Ray Stevenston, Stuart Townsend, Kat Dennings and Natalie Portman if you want the tip of the iceburg. From what has been gathered so far, without Marvel releasing the actual plot synopsis, the story is about a partially disabled medical student Dr. Donald Blake discovers his heretofore unknown alter ego, the Norse warrior, Thor. The feature is scheduled to start filming in mid-January of 2010 with a May 20th, 2011 release date.
