Reeves settles into Passengers

Morgan Creek Productions gets together the pieces for their latest project, entitled Passengers, as they sign on Keanu Reeves to take on the male lead. The film, being taken on by Seven Pounds director Gabriele Muccino, was written up originally by Jon Spaihts but is getting re-written at the moment by an unknown.

Set in the future, “Passengers” centers on Jim Preston (Reeves), a mechanic on a 120-year journey to a distant colonized planet in another galaxy, who becomes the first traveler to experience pod hibernation failure. Having woken up 100 years too soon, he is stranded in the world of an interstellar spaceship with only robots and androids for companionship.  A year into his journey, he decides to wake up a fellow passenger, a beautiful journalist named Aurora. They fall in love but must soon deal not only with the revelation of Jim’s misjudged act of waking her but a major malfunction of the ship itself (THR).

No word yet on who will play the female lead, or who else will join the supporting cast for this production. Filming is poised to start on January next year with no set release date. Reeves will be appearing once more on the big screen in the Malcolm Venville comedy Henry’s Crime, set for release sometime this year.
