Rare stills from Tim Burton’s Superman Lives
Warner Bros. was seeking to do another Superman film, after the weak fourth film in the Christopher Reeves-starring franchise – Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. It was going to be directed by Tim Burton, after his rousing and successful two Batman films, called Superman Lives, with a script penned by Kevin Smith. Nic Cage was to be Supes.
That, obviously, never came to fruition, and finally we got Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns instead. Now, after years of never-been-seen, below (via /Film) are some of the early conceptual suit work for the film for Superman from FX artist Steve Johnson.

The easiest and most natural reaction is that this is not the Superman we all know and love. BadassDigest claims the script from Kevin Smith, had Brainiac killing Superman, but our hero gets resurrected by Eradicator. Powerless, he dons this suit to help him fight back against Brainiac. I don’t know, seems hokey now, but in light of that, those photos are okay. I doubt if this gets reused for Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, but it’s a great what if. Thoughts?

the word Gay comes to mind . ..
Bullet Dodged. When I see the neon lights in that one pic, it reminds of Schumacher’s Batman (oh the horror).
Producer Jon Peters wanted the black suit, like after Doomsday killed Supes, he came back with long hair, black suit, silver emblem.
