Quaid and Hemsworth put on Throwbacks
The Last Song‘s Liam Hemsworth is jumping off the beaches and onto the basketball court with Dennis Quaid as they both are rumored to be in the middle of talks to both star in the upcoming feature The Throwback. Based off of true events, the drama centers on Frank and Isaac Gildea, the only father-son duo to ever play college basketball on the same team.
Frank Gildea dropped out of college in 1981 to support his family. Two decades later, he returned to his alma mater, College of the Redwoods, where his son was playing for the school’s basketball squad. The elder Gildea was able to finish out his eligibility and join his son on the team that won the school’s first conference championship in 27 years, says The Wrap.
Doug Atchison is attached to the picture to direct, this person’s previous credits being Akeelah and the Bee. Prison Break writer Nick Santora is putting together the script from the original draft conjured up by scribe Brad Gann. Walden Media and Mayhem Pictures are latched onto the film, scheduled to be released sometime in 2011.
You can still see Liam Hemsworth co-star with Disney channel princess Miley Cyrus in the Nicholas Sparks novel-turned-movie The Last Song in theaters right now.
