Producer explains the delay of The Thing prequel
It was reported last week that Matthijs van Hijningen Jr.’s prequel to The Thing was delayed indefinitely (here). No reason was given for the delay, producer Marc Abraham has now explained the reasoning behind it. According to Hit Fix, Abraham revealed the film was delayed because of re-shoots.
A cut of the film exists, but the filmmakers aren’t completely happy with it and want to tweak a few scenes. Their plan is to improve a few sequences as well as work out a few plot issues. One scene in particular is when the humans first encounter the alien. That scene was one of the most memorable of John Carpenter’s film, and the director probably wants this film to live up to the original. Matthijs van Hijningen Jr is aware of how the alien and the characters drove Carpenter’s film, and he wants this film to be the same.
The primary reason the date was changed is to give everyone enough time to get it right, and not rush the film’s production. That would be as many fans are upset about this film already, and the last thing needed is to not get it right. The shoots are expected to be completed soon, and will be ready for release early next year. It’s all just a matter of securing a new release date that would suite the film.
