Producer Andrew Lazar updates Akira
It’s been so long since news on Warner Bros.’ planned live-action adaptation of the popular manga, Akira. However, producer Andrew Lazar, while speaking with Collider, assures you that the film is still moving forward. In fact, Warner Bros. “loves the property” and the studio “very enthusiastic about the project”. A new writer has just been hired, and will supposedly be joining Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. The writers are as of right now “conceptualizing”.
It was confirmed the film was going to be based on the original manga rather than the anime. It also was confirmed to be split into two films a while back. The first will focus on the first three volumes of the manga, with part two on the final three volumes. There’s no word on when filming or casting is scheduled to begin, as they’re are doing much work on pre-production. Albert and Allen Hughes are assumed to still be attached as directors.
