Police Academy comes back to life

It’s time to get back into the eighties comedies with a modern twist as New Line Cinema grabs onto a remake of Police Academy. Producer Paul Maslansky is coming back on board the picture, serving as producer in the original first installment of the film series. Maslansky spills to The Hollywood Reporter more on his thoughts on this brand spanking new reboot.:

“It’s going to be very worthwhile to the people who remember it and to those who saw it on TV,” Maslansky said. “It’s going to be a new class. We hope to discover new talent and season it with great comedians. It’ll be anything but another movie with a numeral next to it. And we’ll most probably retain the wonderful musical theme.”

No word yet on who will be attached to write or direct the feature, but knowing how fast a lot of the New Line stuff is coming along it’s only a mere matter of time until we find out. Police Academy was directed by Hugh Wilson and starred the strangely popular Steven Guttenberg and Kim Cattrall, grabbing enough of a comedy fan base to spawn six more films and a television series. Are you one of those who love the fact that they’re remaking so many of the features from the eighties, or do you wish they would just stop already?
