Pixar not developing Cars spin-off, Planes
It was reported that Pixar Studios would be developing its first direct-to-DVD film, Planes. The film is intended to be a spin-off to Cars. It seemed almost like a bad move for the studio as it’s dominating theaters with their animated features. But as it turns out, Pixar isn’t developing the film at all.
According to Bleeding Cool, Planes is being developed, but not by Pixar. Disney Toon Studios will be designing and developing the film. Pixar will be involved, but how much is yet to be known. The film obviously originated from Pixar as John Lasseter, who directed Cars and will be co-directing the sequel, has said to be protective of the franchise, so he’ll most likely be keeping an eye on development.
There’s still not much known about the film. This isn’t the first DTV feature from Disney Toon Studios, either as the studio is responsible for the Bambi 2 and Lion King 1 1/2.
