Peter Jackson won’t direct The Hobbit
When it was announced that J.RR. Tolkien’s The Hobbit would be adapted to film, fans immediately wanted Peter Jackson to helm the project. Now, with the news that Guilmero Del Toro has left, fans are once again hoping Jackson would take over as director. However, this won’t be the case.
According to Jackson’s manager Ken Kamins (via Deadline Hollywood), Jackson is committed to other films that would make directing The Hobbit impossible. He also has yet to be offered the job. Kamins was busy setting up films for Jackson to direct while Del Toro was busy with the film.
While he may not be available to direct, he will still stay on to produce the film. The good news for the fans is that Jackson will be heavily involved in who is chosen to replace Del Toro as director. Kamins assures us that Fran Walsh and Peter Jackson are doing everything necessary to protect the franchise.
