Pellington takes on The Orphanage

In what nowadays is a typical move for the likes of Hollywood, there’s yet another film that’s thrown up and tossed around for the latest batch of remakes. This one comes in the form of The Orphanage, an Americanized version of the popular 2007 Spanish thriller directed by Juan Antonio Bayona. For this domestic version of the film New Line Cinema tapped Mark Pellington to take the reigns of the film. The original “Orphanage” stars Belen Rueda (“The Sea Inside”) as a woman who takes over the orphanage where she was raised, to open a home for disabled children. Then her young son begins to play with the same imaginary friend who terrorized her when she was a child (Variety).

Producing along on this feature is The Hobbit director Guillermo Del Toro also with Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson. Penning the script is Del Toro himself with Larry Fessenden. Word has it that this remake was practically been inevitable for the likes of New Line Cinema, slowly but surely being put together since 2007.
