Palmer finds his Dune

Chase Palmer is the latest to latch onto the Dune project, serving as the screen writer for the novel adaptation. Although there’s already a big screen version of the Frank Herbert novel from the eighties that was directed by David Lynch, that’s not stopping Paramount Pictures to try and capitalize on the possibility of yet another remake. Attached to direct is Pierre Morel, who’s recent directorial work From Paris With Love just landed into theaters this past weekend. Morel will be working closely with Palmer on a draft of the script that scribe Josh Zetumer put together, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Paramount is eyeing a possible 2012 release, which gives Morel and Palmer plenty of time to try and put together a different draft on the science fiction film. Dune tells the story of young Paul Atreides (the heir apparent to Duke Leto Atreides and the scion of House Atreides) as he and his family accept control of the desert planet Arrakis, the only source of the “spice” melange, the most important and valuable substance in the universe. The story explores the complex and multi-layered interactions of politics, religion, ecology, technology, and human emotion, as the forces of the Empire confront each other for control of Arrakis and its “spice”.
