Oldboy remake still alive

Fans of Park Chan-wook’s Oldboy were over-joyed when just around this time last year an upcoming remake of the film was seemingly dead. Steven Spielberg and Will Smith were attached to the project, but it fell apart after DreamWorks bailed out on the project. However, things seem to have changed, and the film is now gaining ground with a script about the be completed.

On his Twitter, Dustin Rowles of Pajiba revealed that a script for the remake is nearly complete and the studio is happy with it so far. “Protosevich’s “Old Boy” script nearly in — studio high on it,” he posted. It also seems that Mandate is looking to see if Steven Spielberg is still available to direct. Although, that probably isn’t possible as Spielberg will be directing Robopocalypse (here) after work on War Horse is finished. Don’t get your hopes up because Mandate is also looking into Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class) and Danny Boyle (127 Hours) as back-ups. No word if Will Smith is still attached.
