Oldboy director readying first English film

While his 2006 film, I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK hasn’t been released yet, Park Chan-wook’s Vengeance Trilogy (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, and Lady Vengeance) and Thirst has made a huge splash on American audiences to rave reviews and fan boy praise. LA Times is reporting Park is in talks for his newest film, but this time it will be his first Hollywood film, called Stoker.

The script was written by Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) and is set to star Carey Mulligan and Jodie Foster. The film will be released by Fox Searchlight and is about a young woman whose eccentric uncle comes back into her life after the death of her father in a dramatic thriller.

As a big fan of Park, I’m eager to see if he can still have his aesthetic and style from his South Korean films, and not just another Asian director being swallowed up by Hollywood producers. Time will tell.
