National Society puts Hurt Locker on top

hurt-locker-boomThe votes are in and the number one film within the masses were calculated through the National Society of Film Critics. The Hollywood Reporter states that Kathryn Bigelow’s critically acclaimed film The Hurt Locker takes the prize of best picture among this group of critics, adding along with that is Bigelow for best director and Jeremy Renner grabbing best actor among the group.

Among the rest of the winners for this includes the best actress which goes out to Yolande Moreau for Seraphine. Best supporting actor went to Christoph Waltz for his role in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds along with Paul Schneider who acted in the Jane Campion film Bright Star. Within the best supporting actress category Mo’Nique strikes again with her role in Precious.

It’s not too much of a surprise to see the Coen brothers get recognition for their writing again as they pick the two for their script for A Serious Man. The rest of the winners can be read right here, and judging from the list of winners maybe it’s a foreshadowing of nominees at least to come when it pertains to the Academy Award nominees.

I've been in love with film ever since I was a kid. The time, effort and passion that runs through a majority most film is something that's always attracted me to this field. What ended up happening with my big appetite for all things going on in the industry turned from random blurbs on Facebook to an unexpected but fun job. College student by day, movie news writer by early morning...or any time in the day and night when more news arrives. Working towards my bachelor's degree in film, what a surprise. I do other things too, like draw, write stories, maintain a social life and feed my pet dragon Lockheed. If you want to know more about me, hunt me down and just ask.

  1. interesting that the hurt locker would win this award. I am so used to seeing the NSFC going with more left field winners. curiously this is the first time a film wins both the NSFC,LAFCA, and the NYFCC both pick the same winners. the last time being L.A Confidential and having that one lose Oscar gold to a James Cameron film. a repeat this year would be HUGE! and very likely seeing as avatar and up in the air are the films to beat right now
