Muccino goes for Passengers

Submitted by Melissa Molina on January 27, 2010 – 1:20 pmNo Comment

Gabriele Muccino is in the middle of negotiations to direct the upcoming project Passengers. If he end completely latches on, then he’ll be directing Keanu Reeves who stars in the Morgan Creek Productions picture. Passengers is set in the future on a spacecraft making a centuries-long interstellar voyage to a new planet. Due to a computer glitch, a single passenger (Reeves) awakens from cryogenic sleep 90 years before anyone else. Faced with the prospect of growing old and dying alone, he, in turn, awakens a beautiful woman (Variety). The script is penned by Jon Spaihts.

Producing the picture is James G. Robinson under Morgan Creek Productions. Filming is expected to start up in the summer with a more than likely 2011 release date that has yet to be confirmed. Muccino’s previous works that some might have seen include The Pursuit of Happyness and Seven Pounds. Reeves can next be seen in 47 Ronin and is in the middle of development of the popular Japanese comic book adaptation of Cowboy Bebop in which he stars as Spike.
