Moscow fire shuts down The Darkest Hour
Forest fires have been spreading throughout the city of Moscow lately and have killed more than 52 people. Those fires have now caused the delay of Chris Gorak’s alien invasion thriller, The Darkest Hour.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Summit Entertainment was forced to shut down production on the film due to the thick smoke. Production was in the midst of shooting exterior scenes, but the thick smoke has made shooting impossible. Summit Entertainment issued a statement saying, “On any production the health and safety of the actors and crew is of primary concern.”
Production is only going to be down for two weeks to allow things to stabilize. Summit assured the crew the film would be wrapped up on schedule. “We do not foresee this temporary stoppage of filming effecting the film’s wrap date as we always build contingencies into a production schedule to account for unforeseen situations,” the studio said. The film stars Emil Hirsch and Olivia Thirlby. Tom Jacobson and Timur Bekmambetov are producing.
