Morgan Freeman in talks for Akira
Casting for Allen and Albert Hughes’ live-action adaptation of the popular manga, Akira, is underway after years of staying in development hell. We’ve already heard rumor that Zack Efron has been offered the lead in the film (here), and now it looks like Morgan Freeman is also circling the film. According to Bl00dy-Disgusting, Freeman is negotiating to play The Colonel.
Akira is set in post-World War III Tokyo, and follows a motorcycle gang member named Tetsuo Shim, who is subject to government experiments that will bring out his psychic powers. The Colonel is the head of the secret government. While many fans are upset with this adaptation, casting Freeman is possibly a good sign. Freeman is also no stranger to comic book adaptations having worked on Nolan’s Batman films, Red, and Wanted.
