Miike to remake Harakiri in 3D
A couple of years ago, it was damn near impossible to follow what Takashi Miike (Gozu, Audition) was up too because he was directing like a handful a films a year. He’s slowed enough down recently, so we can catch up with him. After a successful festival run of his latest film, a remake of the 1963 13 Samurais (that still hasn’t been picked up for an American release), Miike is now going to remake Harakiri, that was directed by Masaki Kobayashi.
The will be in 3D (but of course), and if the sound of a 3D Miike film doesn’t interest you, then I don’t know what would. Tatsuya Nakadai starred in the original 1962 film as a disillusioned samurai who exacts revenge on the clan leaders who forced his son-in-law to commit ritual suicide. You can find this film on the Criterion Collection now.
