Michael Cera says yes to Arrested Development!!! Finally!

Submitted by Daniel Herrera on February 24, 2009 – 6:59 pm36 Comments

Long time hold out Michael Cera, has finally agreed to do the film adaptation of the hit television series Arrested Development.  The entire cast had agreed in making the long awaited film for some time now.  Reports have been coming in for months now that the film was coming and the script being written but no confirmation.   This Sunday during the Oscar pre-show Development producer Ron Howard, had even stated : “It’s looking very much like we’re going to make [the movie], but we’ve now been asked to stop offering any details. It’s cloaked in a little mystery, but it’s looking good.”

Apparently, Cera had not wanted to do the part to avoid being typecast since his filmography is so vast and varied, that it would be a step back to pay recognition to the series that put his name on the map.   It was according to E! that the news was released today via an ‘inside source’ that the actor had finally agreed to do the film. E! even states the film may go by the end of the year so hopefully this news will help abate some of the hate towards Cera, and smooth anticipation for the film.

“vast and varied?” I hope that was sarcastic…has Cera actually played anybody BUT the awkward kid he plays in AD?

What a little douche bag he was mildly amusing but the rest of the cast rocked Karma he’s going to let ego get in the way …not good…
…..remember the strawberry blonde numbskull from hill street blues that thought he was too cool he lost like two decades of work over that fiasco and now he’s Horatio….

the original response was saying that every of Cera’s roles is like his in AD. He’s always a shy, weird kid. and i think that a lot of his movies suck. AD is god.

if David Cross is ok with reprising Tobia, then certainly Michael Cera should be ok with doing George Michael again.

complete sarcasm. Cera always seems to play the same insecure person in all his films and tv series.

Let’s face it, Cera’s doing the movie ’cause Ron Howard is a very big gorilla and it’s not a good idea to piss off the very big gorilla when you’re just starting your career.

lol. good call P-boy Ron Howard is a big player in hollywood and Cera really shouldn’t go against what put him on the map in the first place. he would be nowhere if it wasn’t for Howard , Grazer and Hurwitz

  • Fantastic! It’s about time! He may play the same role in every movie, but it’s still hilarious.

Maybe he was just holding out for more money, thats what i would do if i was the last person to sign on.

I think his holding out was a joke, like the viral video of his auditions for Knocked Up.

Exactly where is this “Apparently…” information coming from?
    This is all hearsay.

I can see where Michael Cera is coming from. I’ve already ‘type cast’ joeb as the cocky guy with a deep voice (hot rod, blades of glory).

But still, AD is going to be such a big movie, he would have to be pretty ballsy (and/or stupid) to actually say no.

If Michael Cera does the role of Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim right, he would actually have a slightly more varied resume. Scott Pilgrim is not at all awkward, just sort of stupid.

Even still, I would suspect Cera’s objection was more along the lines of the George Michael character making him look younger it placing him in “you can only play characters that are 18-21 jail” for another few years.

According to Portia DeRossia it had nothing to do with any of the rumors of Michael being ‘Big headed’ or looking trying to have a more varied resume. It had to do with ‘Timing’. I guess she would know.

Thank God! A film adaptation of Arrested Development wouldn’t be the same without him. What a great show. And, hopefully (and most likely), will be a great film.

I’m not going to bitch anymore, he agreed to do it. Secretly I figured he always would. I kind of understood him holding out.. there was no script. Why even make a decision until a script was out there. There obviously was no rush.

Even Ron Howard and Jason Bateman understood where the kid was coming from.. and since these two guys were child actors themselves I think they know better than anyone what Michael was thinking about.

Hell Ron Howard left Happy Days.. he had a big incentive from the fans to stay and I remember that he got a lot a flack for it.. but he was tired of the ‘Opie’ , ‘Richie’ roles and he followed his dream to do other stuff. Good for him. Michael doesn’t owe us squat, if he wanted to move on, then so be it.

But I’m glad he’s returning, Arrested Development is and was my favorite show, wayyy ahead of it’s time and it wouldn’t have been the same without George Michael. Is Portia DeRossi Returning though?
